SMARTIO EDU 2023 for Braille
The SMARTIO EDU 2023, designed for MoreDream by SAQ Design, is an innovative educational device tailored for visually impaired individuals learning Braille. The design team has thoughtfully considered the unique perspectives and experiences of visually impaired users, recognizing the challenges involved in mastering Braille.
One of the key insights guiding the design was the understanding that cluttered interfaces can be overwhelming, leading to user fatigue even before the device is put to use. Similarly, traditional Braille readers, which convey extensive information, often contribute to high levels of product usage fatigue. To address these issues, the primary design objective was to optimize the organization of information for intuitive reading while minimizing tactile noise that could impede readability.
To achieve this, every surface that contacts sensitive hands has been carefully crafted with soft contours, ensuring comfort during use. Embedded within these soft surfaces are tactile hints designed for fingertip reading. These subtle cues function as navigational aids, indicating the front and back of the device as well as the locations of key interfaces.
Learning Braille can be a demanding process, requiring intense concentration on touch. To facilitate a smoother learning journey, the SMARTIO EDU 2023 incorporates a companion app that allows both teachers and students to easily follow and engage in the learning process. This thoughtful design aims to create an educational tool that is not only user-friendly but also effective in promoting Braille literacy among visually impaired learners.
