Norm Architects & Origin Made Collaboration

In the realm of design, few studios navigate the balance of form and function as gracefully as Norm Architects. Established in 2008, this Copenhagen-based architecture and design studio has embraced a philosophy that transcends mere aesthetics, delving into the sensory realm to craft environments that resonate with the modern human experience.

Guided by a steadfast devotion to simplicity, natural materials, and impeccable craftsmanship, Norm Architects epitomizes the essence of “soft minimalism.” Their work enriches daily life through architecture, interiors, and product design, offering not just visual pleasure but also a nourishing soulfulness. Rooted in the belief of enduring simplicity and functionality, their projects blend Scandinavian heritage with a global perspective, exuding a timeless elegance.

The collaboration between Origin Made and Norm Architects arises from a shared passion for objects and furniture that are aesthetically minimal yet evoke a tactile sense of craftsmanship. The resulting Spiral and Flight Sculptures embody this essence, where raw travertine’s natural beauty, the stonemason’s skilled hands, and classical architecture’s geometrical proportions converge.

As a brand committed to celebrating craftsmanship and design, Origin Made seeks to explore the intimate connection between designer, maker, and resulting design object. In a departure from traditional inquiries, Frederik Werner, Designer & Partner at Norm Architects, shares his personal interpretation of styling Origin Made’s Spiral Sculpture in his own home – a quaint brick villa renovated to his design in 2021, located in Skovshoved, Denmark.

Frederik’s Skovshoved Residence exemplifies Norm Architects’ core principles – a harmony of Japanese aesthetics and Scandinavian materials. Exposed brick walls and wooden beams create a warm backdrop, while curated furniture and design objects add personality. Natural light streams in, highlighting textures. By integrating the Spiral Sculpture, Frederik demonstrates how simplicity and functionality elevate a home’s aesthetic and spiritual ambiance.

The Spiral Sculpture’s versatility shines as it sits on a lower platform, atop a bench corner. Against a plain wall, it becomes part of a curated vignette. Elevated on a tall pedestal, bathed in natural light, it transforms into a captivating statement piece, highlighting its form, materiality, and craftsmanship.

In curated spaces, the Spiral Sculpture becomes more than decor; it sparks conversations, embodies slow living, and bridges human spirit and surroundings. This visual narrative of the Spiral Sculpture in Skovshoved Residence underscores Origin Made and Norm Architects’ shared values – a passion for natural materials, clean yet expressive design, and an appreciation for handmade craftsmanship.
