There’s a particular thrill in watching a band willingly scramble its own DNA, and that’s exactly what Strange Pink does with the bdrmm rework of “Boys Club”. The collaboration is rooted in a kind of creative mischief. Strange Pink drummer Dom Smith, raised on the sacred trinity of Aphex Twin, Nine Inch Nails, and The Streets, pitched the idea with the giddy panic of someone suggesting a controlled detonation inside the band’s comfort zone. It’s a collision of worlds that shouldn’t merge so smoothly, yet here they do: with charm, with nerve, with a willingness to get “a bit weird”. Ryan Smith of bdrmm pushes the track into a new dimension entirely. What began as an ambient sketch mutated into a garage-leaning kinetic pulse: alive, twitching, unpolished in all the right ways.
