In your own words can you please explain your brand DNA?
Supramolecule sets the imaginary horizon in the distant future, and is committed to exploring the future clothing form under the virtual field. With the unique surreal fluid style
as the core, Supramolecule explores the possibility of particle recombination under the imaginary material world. “Fluid Mechanics” is an important field of our aesthetics, rethinking and remolding the relationship between fluid and human body in the language of art.
What do you seek to add to the world through your creations?
I hope to bring more possibilities to fashion design through digital tools, the possibilities beyond the limitations of the physical world, and to express them in an artistic way. Using digital methods to create a new language of fashion art is the core I want to explore. The
multi-dimensional, decentralized and digitalized fashion is a non-linear prediction for the future development of fashion, which is also what I am committed to research.
What are your feelings about fashion’s role and responsibility in shaping culture?
Fashion is closely related to human body and human life, also a huge industry in the society, which plays an important role in shaping culture. Fashion represents people’s identity, expression and lifestyle, so the spiritual and cultural attributes it carries cannot be ignored. Fashion is a cultural carrier with clothing as the main medium, so it bears the significant responsibility of shaping culture.
Do you think the fashion establishment helps or hinders creative progress? Where can the system improve?
At present, the fashion industry is based on seasonal launch, which I think on the one hand promotes the development because of the seasons, but on the other hand, if the launch is too fast, it will lead to the exhaustion of creativity or stereotype. I think it takes time for a creative director or designer to digest and re-explode. So personally, I think the pace of traditional fashion is too fast at the moment.
But because I am mainly focus on digital fashion, so we are not limited by the seasons, nor do we have to have a fixed frequency and release specifications. So I think there is plenty of space in the filed and mode of digital fashion for my creative nourishment. I think the upgrade of the fashion system lies in the upgrade of the business model. Shifts in the business model may replace seasonal launch in other ways.
What has been the most surprising part of your job that you didn’t expect when you first began?
In the digital realm, the most surprising part of my work is definitely the endless possibilities of using digital tool to create new artistic language. In this way I can have much more methods to generate new body architectures which totally break the boundary of physical world’s limitation. Creating through digital tool always surprise me and that is my source and passion of creating digital fashion art.
How do you imagine the future of fashion?
Here I want to make a speculative and artistic imagination. One of my fashion films “Living Force” also shows my thoughts about future fashion, which is a very distant future. Looking back hundreds of years to the development of fashion continue to evolve with the change of technology, and the relationship between clothes and human body may be separated from the relationship between objects and people. From parasitism to symbiosis with the human body, to independent existence from the human body, self-growth and spontaneous reproduction.
Can you tell us about your personal style and how you choose to dress yourself?
My personal style is very uniform and simple. I only wear black, so I usually wear all black. It’s quite a contrast to my work.
Send a message to your future self.
Always be passion and creative.
