Thylacine and Nils Hoffmann’s remix of “Nawa” brings the original’s recordings of the Himba community in Namibia into a more progressive electronic setting. Hoffmann keeps the track’s airy character but gives its rhythms a different direction, with flowing grooves and layered synths that move it closer to melodic deep house.
The remix comes from a piece shaped by Thylacine’s travels through Namibia, where he recorded music and sounds outside the conventional studio. Hoffmann was drawn to those ethereal recordings and wanted to preserve the elements that made the original distinct while bringing them into his own style. The result shifts the focus toward the groove without losing the open quality of the source material.
Hoffmann finished the remix while touring in Nashville, extending a project that began on the road in another part of the world. “Nawa” now carries that sense of movement into the club, with the original’s voices and musical elements set against a more insistent electronic pulse.
