Tire Sculptures by Villu Jaanisoo
Acne Studios FW24 show at Paris Fashion Week mesmerized attendees with its captivating set design, once again collaborating with Estonian artist Villu Jaanisoo to create a striking display. Jaanisoo’s two large-scale sculptures, ingeniously crafted from recycled tires, commanded attention as they took center stage, resembling oversized chairs that embodied the human form.
The industrial-material chairs, described by the fashion brand as embodying a silhouette akin to a body, perfectly complemented the collection’s theme rooted in toughness and the human form. The clothing line featured materials such as leather and denim, showcasing a fusion of ruggedness and sophistication.
Villu Jaanisoo’s oversized tire seats, with their shiny, dark rubber finish, provided a stark contrast to the pristine interior, creating a minimalist yet bold ambiance. Speaking about his work with tires, Jaanisoo remarked, What interests me about working with tires is the certain inner resistance of this material. He explained how shaping them requires both physical and mental force, lending a unique vitality to the sculptures’ surfaces, almost reminiscent of the baroque style.
Jaanisoo’s sculptures seamlessly echoed the collection’s aesthetic, featuring molded leather and denim pieces with a raw, mechanical edge. The futuristic vision showcased elevated femininity alongside a tough attitude, perfectly encapsulating Acne Studios’ avant-garde sensibilities.
