The Yazddakhmeh Cultural Center, designed by Cambyses Architecture Studio, embodies a captivating blend of tradition and modernity in the heart of Yazd, Iran. The project represents a metaphorical exploration of opposites, such as fire and water, death and life, past and future, and integrates them harmoniously into the architectural composition. By combining historical architectural elements with contemporary forms and functions, the design creates a unique and engaging experience for visitors.
Drawing inspiration from the geometric shapes found in ancient Iranian architecture, the project features a juxtaposition of circular and rectangular volumes. The circular geometry, reminiscent of the Yazd crypt, is combined with rectangular elements seen in other local buildings, resulting in a seamless integration of traditional and modern design elements.
Throughout the project, intricate Iranian architectural motifs adorn every detail, adding a touch of historical richness and cultural significance.
The focal point of the cultural center is a massive circular roof, situated above a commercial wall that overlooks a water feature. This contemporary and transparent structure serves as a modern interpretation of traditional Persian architectural forms. Additionally, the design incorporates steps and parallel lines on the rooftop, inspired by ancient Persian celebrations and rituals centered around fire in circular formations.
Yazddakhmeh Cultural Center is intended to evoke curiosity and mystery, inviting visitors to explore a realm where the past and present converge. By immersing themselves in the project’s introspective and historical ambiance, individuals can discover a new concept of life and engage with the duality of modernity and tradition.
With its distinct architectural language, Yazddakhmeh Cultural Center stands as a testament to the Cambyses Architecture Studio’s innovative approach in combining historical and contemporary elements to create a space that celebrates both the rich heritage of Yazd and the possibilities of the future.
