Custom yyplusplus aluminum chair merges industrial design with functionality
The Sala Cero chair, designed by architecture studio yyplusplus for Madrid’s Sala de Despiece restaurant, exemplifies a fusion of industrial precision and ergonomic functionality. Drawing inspiration from the meticulous assembly methods of traditional cutting rooms, the chair’s design emphasizes layering and adhesion, mirroring the structured environment of its culinary counterpart.
Manufactured by Caliper, the chair comprises 38 aluminum components, 227 screws, four non-slip silicone legs, two anti-scratch protectors, and two upholstered sections for the seat and backrest. Utilizing CNC laser cutting and folding techniques, the production process ensures high precision and facilitates mass production. The assembly is entirely dry, eliminating the need for welding and allowing for straightforward construction.
A notable feature of the Sala Cero chair is its functional adaptability. The backrest is designed to recline, enabling the chair to be conveniently stored under tables, optimizing space within the restaurant setting.
