10th Advanced Architecture Competition

10th Advanced Architecture Competition

About The Competition

The Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is organizing its 10th Advanced Architecture Competition as part of a global reflection aimed at exploring the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the built environment.

The competition encourages participants to propose transcalar designs anywhere in the world that reflect its diverse cultural, environmental, economic or social conditions.

The competition jury will consist of competent experts from around the world.

Each winner will receive a monetary award as well as a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at IAAC during the 2024-25 academic year.

Participants are challenged to imagine innovative design solutions that harness the potential of AI in the built environment using both AI and non-AI tools. Proposals should explore how advanced technological tools can provide new insights into the built environment. These imaginaries can range from critical speculation to prospective projections. Designs should directly engage with and respond to one of the proposed topics by offering design interventions at a wide range of scales:

  • Regenerative Decarbonization
  • A more than Human Cohabitation
  • Extreme migrations
  • Radical self-sufficiency
  • Planetary automation
  • Emerging urbanization territories

The 3 prizes (total value: EUR 60,000) will be distributed at the discretion of the international jury and will include cash prizes and 3 master programs at IAAC to choose from MAA01, MAEBB, MDEF, MACT, MRAC and MaAI (at come). All of the selected projects will be the subject of a special work produced in partnership with the publishing house Actor as in previous editions. In addition to the main awards, three special mentions will also be awarded.

The jury is made up of a diverse panel of international architects and experts representing the world, including Jane Burry (Adelaide), Immanuel Koh (Singapore), Astrid Piber (Amsterdam), Pico Velásquez (Los Angeles, New York, Dubai ), Firas. Safieddine. (Barcelona), Anna Ramos (Barcelona), Enric Ruiz-Geli (Blacksburg), among others. The Advanced Architecture Competition program will be enriched by online events and conferences that will provide a comprehensive overview of AI and its impact on architecture and design.
