THE OBJECT 01 by Nako Baev explores modular sustainable furniture
THE OBJECT 01 3D printed chair by Nako Baev is a furniture design project developed between digital modeling and physical production in Amsterdam, where the Bulgarian designer and creative director is based. Conceived as both seating and spatial object, THE OBJECT 01 3D printed chair operates at the intersection of furniture, architecture, and installation, using recycled PETG and modular construction to define its form, weight, and environmental logic with precision.

Built through an optimized 3D printing workflow, THE OBJECT 01 is composed of interlocking segments that follow a clear structural system. Each module is designed to reduce material waste while maintaining stability and continuity across the overall geometry. The use of recycled PETG supports the project’s sustainable intent, while the production process allows for controlled fabrication directly from digital files. This approach positions the chair within a broader discussion around digital manufacturing, circular material use, and scalable furniture systems.

Formally, THE OBJECT 01 3D printed chair is defined by a block-based composition that emphasizes mass, proportion, and void. The geometry avoids decorative elements, focusing instead on how volume is distributed and perceived from different angles. Finished in “Kyoto Fog,” a cold grey tone, the surface reinforces the object’s quiet presence and highlights subtle variations in light and shadow across its planes. Despite its solid appearance, the chair remains lightweight at approximately 20 kilograms, balancing visual density with functional usability.

The project originated from a minimal sketch, evolving through a process of reduction and refinement. Nako Baev removed non-essential elements to arrive at a form that feels resolved through proportion alone. Influences from atmospheric digital environments, including references to video games such as Silent Hill and Half-Life, inform the spatial quality of the piece. This connection introduces a sense of stillness and tension, positioning the chair not only as furniture but also as a sculptural installation capable of adapting to interiors, galleries, or public contexts.

Beyond its physical presence, THE OBJECT 01 reflects a broader direction within Nako Baev’s practice, which spans real-time visuals, animation, and spatial objects. Recognized in Forbes 30 Under 30 Bulgaria in the Arts, Culture and Media category, and awarded in international film contexts, he continues to translate digital aesthetics into tangible forms. THE OBJECT 01 3D printed chair represents a prototype for future developments in modular furniture, where sustainability, precision, and atmosphere coexist within a single object designed for both use and perception.
