Dune by MOSS Objects shapes light through aluminium curves

MOSS Objects presents Dune Modular Pendant Luminaire, a lighting collection designed by Daniel Becker and handmade in Germany for residential, hospitality, and commercial interiors worldwide. Built from individually formed aluminium shades, Dune operates as a modular pendant system that can move from intimate domestic use to large architectural volumes while keeping a coherent visual language.

The collection is structured around a chain of aluminium elements, with each shade acting as one unit in a larger composition. Four to twenty shades can be linked into a single fixture, allowing the luminaire to adapt to kitchen islands, dining areas, stair voids, atriums, or multi-storey lobbies. Each shade is formed from aluminium sheet, creating a curved surface that reflects light across its body and gives the object a sense of motion even when static.

The geometry of Dune references the formation of desert landscapes, where volume appears through soft transitions and continuous movement. Daniel Becker translates this idea into connected aluminium segments that meet at their outer points, producing a line of light that expands, turns, descends, or gathers in space. The result is a pendant luminaire that functions as both lighting and spatial composition, shaped by the scale and rhythm of the architecture around it.

Dune is available in five configurations: Curve, Cluster, Spiral, Vertical Line, and Vertical Cluster. Curve offers the most horizontal expression of the collection and is suited to lower ceilings, counters, and dining tables. Cluster brings the shades into a denser arrangement, creating the presence of a chandelier while preserving the modular structure of the system. Spiral introduces a three-dimensional movement designed for high ceilings, lobbies, and hospitality interiors where the fixture can occupy vertical space with greater intensity.

The vertical models extend the system into architectural height. Vertical Cluster forms a suspended volume from a single point, making it suitable for large rooms that require presence without multiple ceiling mounts. Vertical Line offers a slimmer composition, working as a minimal alternative to a floor lamp and occupying a compact footprint within staircases, double-height entrances, or residential interiors. Through these formats, the Dune collection gives architects and specifiers a flexible lighting system that can be adapted to both standard and site-specific projects.

Handmade in Germany, Dune is offered in Silver Anodised, Silver Polished, Gold Tone, Copper Tone, and Dark Bronze Tone, with custom finishes available on request. The silver finishes emphasize the material character of aluminium and give the collection a more architectural reading, while the warmer tones suit residential and hospitality settings. Awarded the iF Design Award 2025, Dune Modular Pendant Luminaire by MOSS Objects positions modular lighting as a compositional tool, where illumination, material, and spatial scale are developed through a single adaptable system.
