Christian Cohle makes “Venus” a song about love as a force that can keep its hold long after the moment that created it has passed. Drawing on Venus as both divine and predatory, Cohle gives desire a double nature: beautiful enough to draw someone in, dangerous enough to become a trap. The image of a spider’s web captures the problem, with attraction becoming something the narrator remains caught inside years later.
The refrain “I’ll keep on running” refuses the obvious escape route. Running does not mean getting free, because the song treats endurance itself as the response to love’s pull. Alex Reeves’ hypnotic beat gives that persistence a physical motion, while Renaud Gabriel Pion’s saxophones weave through it without breaking the spell. The narrator keeps moving, but the gravity remains.
“Venus” leaves the myth intact without making it distant. The goddess is still beautiful, the trap is still there, and the person caught inside it knows enough to keep running. Some webs hold because you keep moving inside them.
