VOLT FACE uses Odace components to build a collection of lighting and furniture
VOLT FACE by Studio 5•5 is a furniture and lighting collection developed from Schneider Electric’s Odace range and presented during Paris Design Week 2026 at Galerie Joseph in Paris. Instead of selecting switches and sockets after the main object has been designed, Vincent Baranger and Anthony Lebossé reversed the usual process and used the electrical component as the formal and functional basis of the project. From this approach came a wall lamp, a table, a bedside table, a pendant light and several interactive lighting pieces, all constructed around the proportions and circular geometry of the Odace system.
The project treats the Odace catalogue as a modular design palette, with individual faceplates repeated across surfaces, stacked into volumes or combined into longer compositions. Studio 5•5 describes the system as a toolkit that designers and interior architects can assemble freely, and this logic becomes clearly visible in the collection’s larger pieces, where the same square format is multiplied to create structure as well as ornament. The recognizable round-in-a-square motif gives each object a consistent identity while allowing different materials, colours and finishes to alter the overall character.
Function is integrated directly into these compositions. The black table incorporates electrical outlets into its perimeter, allowing devices and cables to connect at the edge of the furniture instead of relying on separate wall sockets, while the bedside table combines stacked modules with lighting and power access in a compact vertical format. The pendant light extends the system horizontally through a sequence of faceplates, turning a component normally installed flush against a wall into a suspended object that can be operated directly within the room.
Interaction is also central to how the collection is experienced, because the switches remain operational and are deliberately positioned to invite testing and repeated use. Studio 5•5 wanted visitors to question which controls were functional and what would happen when each surface was pressed, making touch, resistance and the familiar mechanical click part of the encounter. This tactile dimension gives the collection a more active role than conventional display furniture, while drawing attention to an object that is handled every day but rarely considered as a design element in its own right.
The breadth of the Odace range allows the same modular system to move across different material expressions, including faceplates in concrete, terrazzo, copper, brass, ceramic and enamel. Schneider Electric’s Odace Architecte collection is specifically designed to support multi-module compositions, while compatibility with the Wiser connected system enables the same family of devices to control lighting, heating and shutters. In VOLT FACE, those technical characteristics are made visible within the object instead of being concealed behind furniture or architectural finishes.
Founded in 2003 by Vincent Baranger, Jean-Sébastien Blanc, Anthony Lebossé and Claire Renard, Studio 5•5 works across product design, spatial design, research and art direction, with a practice that often reconsiders familiar objects through reuse, repair and reinterpretation. VOLT FACE continues that approach by turning a standardized electrical component into a repeatable design unit, demonstrating how furniture and lighting can be generated from an element usually treated as secondary within an interior project.
