Emilio Osei-Bonsu transforms lighting into sculptural objects
Bonsu Lights is a design project that demonstrates how performance technology can also serve as sculptural objects in their own right. Created by Stockholm-based spatial designer Emilio Osei-Bonsu, the series of lighting fixtures reflects over a decade of experience designing stages and environments for leading global brands and artists.
The project grew out of a desire to create professional-grade lights that not only deliver on functionality but also present a refined presence, even when switched off.

Each fixture in the collection is fully wireless and battery-driven, offering flexibility in both live performance and exhibition contexts. The materials used include anodized aluminum, mirrored steel, and smoked or frosted glass, chosen for their durability and visual depth.
By incorporating 3D-printed glass elements, Osei-Bonsu was able to fine-tune light diffusion and form, resulting in carefully calibrated shapes that achieve both precision and atmosphere. This experimentation ensures that the lights maintain a strong identity whether installed in a concert hall, gallery, or cultural event space.

The fixtures embody a minimal yet tactile approach, with an architectural quality that elevates them beyond standard lighting equipment. They are engineered for professionals but also designed to stand as sculptural pieces that influence space and mood.
By prioritizing material presence and the interaction between light and surface, Bonsu Lights shifts the perception of stage and exhibition lighting from purely functional tools to integrated design elements. This balance makes them suitable for a wide range of creative applications, from music performances to art installations.

Osei-Bonsu’s career has long been situated at the intersection of music, fashion, and culture. As co-founder of Sub Rosa Agency, he has collaborated with brands such as Porsche, Cartier, Adidas, and Eytys, as well as leading creative figures including Swedish House Mafia, Peggy Gou, and Mos Def.
His approach consistently emphasizes atmosphere, narrative, and spatial identity, qualities that are clearly evident in Bonsu Lights. This first independent design collection is the culmination of years spent working with stage technology and recognizing the potential for lighting to function as both technical infrastructure and artistic expression.

By rethinking the role of stage lighting, Bonsu Lights contributes to a growing movement in design that places equal value on function and form.
The collection demonstrates how lighting can become central to visual storytelling, shaping environments and enhancing experiences across cultural disciplines. In doing so, it underscores the importance of considering not just what light does, but how it looks and feels within a space.
