Lil Bales’ “Outlaw (Leak)” puts a familiar scene next to a character who wants nothing to do with company. He eats dinner alone, phone in front of him, watching the screen while comparing it to the women who have been playing him. The hook makes solitude sound like a choice. He can cook for himself, handle his own business, and keep other people out of his kitchen.
The verses build a much louder persona around that scene. Money, drugs, weapons, sex, and insults come in quick succession, with jokes and abrupt changes settling into one story. The line about having a hundred women in his phone also complicates the claim that he wants to be left alone. There are plenty of contacts, but none seem worth inviting over. That contradiction gives the track its character. Bales talks like someone who has everything under control, yet keeps returning to the image of eating dinner by himself. The phone stays close, even when he insists he doesn’t need anyone.
