Lost Tapes of 88: Love In VHS

Lost Tapes of 88 opens the NANDO EP with “Love In VHS,” a tribute to the memories of growing up alongside his brother Fernando. The track draws on old home-video footage of the two brothers and their friends as teenagers in Brazil. That material gives the song a personal point of reference: these are not images of some distant past, but moments the artist once shared with someone who is no longer here.

There´s a memory kept on tape, something that can be played again but never lived through twice. The lighthearted atmosphere comes from the footage itself, with the brothers messing around and spending time together. Knowing that he has passed away changes how those scenes land. Their ordinary moments now carry a sadness that the people in the video could not have anticipated. There is something moving about using those recordings to open an EP named after his brother. The footage preserves their younger selves, still together, with no indication of what lies ahead. The video can bring those days back into view, but it cannot bring them back.
