Art Paris Celebrates 25 Years with a Powerful Edition

Art Paris’s 25th anniversary

Art Paris is commemorating its 25th anniversary by hosting a remarkable edition that will unite around 134 galleries from 25 countries worldwide, taking place at the Grand Palais Éphémère from March 30th to April 2nd, 2023.

Established in 1999, Art Paris is run by France Conventions, a family-owned French company. Over the past quarter-century, Art Paris has established itself as a pioneering art fair, thanks to the dedication of its proprietors Julien and Valentine Lecêtre, along with fair director Guillaume Piens. The event strives to promote exploration and discovery in the realms of modern and contemporary art, making it one of the most noteworthy spring arts events globally.

The 2023 selection: a strong and renewed list of exhibitors

Building on the success of previous editions, the 2023 selection of exhibitors for the fair has been refreshed with 44 new galleries, representing a 33% renewal rate compared to 2022. Additionally, the fair will continue to feature a strong lineup of international heavyweights such as Almine Rech, Continua, Lelong & Co., Mennour, Perrotin, Templon, and Nathalie Obadia.

The selection of exhibitors for the fair is intentionally diverse, with 60% of the galleries being domestic and 40% internationally-based. This decision aims to highlight the diversity of the French gallery ecosystem, which includes both established modern and contemporary art galleries as well as galleries located in smaller towns throughout the country. The fair also provides support to up-and-coming galleries through its “Promises” sector, which showcases young and emerging structures.

Two themes focusing on the questions of commitment and exile

Art & Commitment

In this edition’s galleries, Marc Donnadieu, an independent exhibition curator, presents his view on the French art scene through a showcase of 20 artists from various generations. This feature delves into the artists’ interpretations of the concept of commitment, be it their dedication to art and their creations or to the world, its past, and present events.

Exile: Dispossession and Resistance

Amanda Abi Khalil, the independent exhibition curator and founder of Beirut-based TAP (Temporary Art Platform), has been given the responsibility of handling this theme. The theme focuses on the work of 18 international artists selected from the exhibiting galleries who address questions related to exile.

Art Paris: the first sustainably designed art fair

Art Paris is an art fair that celebrates local artists and draws in visitors from the surrounding region. It is committed to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices, and since 2022, has adopted a unique approach to organizing the event based on a life cycle analysis (LCA). This marks the first time that an art fair has taken such an innovative step towards sustainability. The fair has partnered with Karbone Prod and Solinnen to ensure that this pioneering approach continues for the 2023 edition of the event.
