DECO-LUXE: Mellow

DECO-LUXE: Mellow

DECO-LUXE makes “Mellow” a song about falling in love without leaving the past behind. The larger idea is to capture nostalgia through analog synths and old textures, making the music cinematic, modern, and experimental. Here, that nostalgia becomes warmer than the usual neon-lit synthwave: the song belongs to a sunset on the beach, where the past is present without taking over the moment.

The lyrics follow that shift through the physical closeness of two people. A silhouette becomes a body, a glittering image becomes an embrace, and the world around the narrator begins to “mellow.” The repeated “If loving feels like this / Then I’m in love with you, I guess so” gives the feeling an almost surprised quality, as if the narrator is discovering what love feels like while already inside it. The sunrise image extends that warmth, turning the new relationship into something that makes the future easier to look at.

That makes “Mellow” a natural expression of Eventide, an album named for the hour when day turns into night. The song lives in that same middle ground: nostalgia without retreat, modernity without losing the warmth of old textures. The narrator only asks for one thing as the world settles around them: “Stay with me.”
