Dvashest’: Layers of self

Dvashest’: Layers of self

Dvashest’ assembles a sonic composite on the single “Layers of Self,” using electronic fragmentation to mirror the assembly of human identity. Synthesizers and samples operate like physical cutouts, accumulating within the arrangement to simulate experiences over time. The production treats electronic music as a tactile archive. Audio textures pile up to establish a dense, crowded space. The composition avoids smooth transitions, forcing disparate fragments to exist in immediate contact.

The track deals with an accretion of layers where each new element alters the foundation. Instead of developing a linear progression, the music stacks loops to build an accumulated mass. A synthesizer loop anchors a sequence before a brief sample disrupts the pattern. The arrangement makes these intersections prominent, showcasing gaps between the cut fragments. Every element carries its own history, resisting a merger into a singular melody.

This sonic process mirrors the visual work of collage artist Natalia Chumakova, who constructed the release artwork from magazine remnants. By aligning the electronic process with physical cutting, the project grounds its concept in a visible practice. The track runs toward its conclusion without thinning out the dense arrangement. The final combination of samples stops mid-beat, leaving the edges raw.
