The Myth Pool make “In It Together” feel like the moment a song stops being an idea and becomes a place two people can inhabit. It began with Amie Penwell’s 2020 demo and a GarageBand loop from Vicente Rodriguez, a small exchange that gave the track enough shape to keep going. The story matters because the music grew from what they had at hand, a Casio, a voice, a laptop, an apartment, rather than from a finished plan.
That approach gives the song a particular kind of patience. Penwell describes hearing her song against Rodriguez’s loop and realizing they could begin, while Rodriguez recalls leaving ideas alone for a year until something finally felt right. The central act here is not adding more, but allowing the answer to arrive later than expected. Their decision to work without studio deadlines also changes what a mistake can mean. A part that does not work does not have to become a compromise just because the clock is running.
The Myth Pool call their music a meeting point between alternative music, dance rhythms, noir moods and electronic sounds, but “In It Together” carries the more interesting idea in its method. The song belongs to a project built around the question of what they would make before rules, algorithms and marketing entered the room. That makes the bedroom feel less like a limitation than a starting point, with the loop still running and the next decision waiting.

Hello, My name is Amie Penwell, this is Vicente Rodriguez. We are new project out of San Francisco (though soon to be Austin, Texas) that go by the name of The Myth Pool.
If you had to bottle up your sound into just three words, which ones would you choose?
Honest, intentional, rhythmic.
Which artists (not only music-related) or moments have left the biggest mark on your music?

When you hit play on your songs, what kind of feeling takes over?
Relief, pride, satiation.
If you could team up with anyone in the world, no limits, who would be that dream collaborator?

What are you working on now, and what are your plans for the future? Anything exciting you can tell us about?
We are getting the next single ready for release called Staring At Clouds (Strange Happenings) in a couple months, and doing a few finishing touches on the a few others to release as an EP called At Home With Monsters. As you know, it costs a lot to finish a song. We are working people doing it as we can afford to. That being said we plan on release in early 2027. We are both pretty stoked on the video we shot in our studio apartment for In It Together. Two people who don’t like being in front of a camera creating all the visuals for the project has been funny. The whole project has pushed us WAY beyond where we thought we could get creatively.
Can you walk us through the story or emotion behind “In It Together”?
Hardest question last.
Well? in 2019 my 23 year relationship unraveled, catapulting me into an entirely different reality that slammed me straight into a year long lock down to face everything that led me there. In It Together was a first step in trying to the feel my way through the magnitude of the changes, and an attempt to accept that you can love someone and still need to leave. So the emotions would be grief, gratitude, trust in the process of authentically facing what felt like the Alps of emotional baggage.
When Vicente found the Garage Band Loop and I played it to that for the first time we knew we needed to see it through.
