For the upcoming edition of Dubai Expo 2020 the UK Pavilion will be designed by British talent Es Devlin.
The Structure named the ‘Poem Pavilion’ is an elaborated creation that will employ artificial intelligence to project messages. The designer found inspiration from the 2015 project of Stephen Hawking. The physicist invited participants to formulate digital messages that will define humanity to alien civilizations. During the Expo AI-generated poems will be formulated alongside the contribution of its visitors. By displaying the poems in several languages such as English, Arabic, Chinese and French, Devlin hopes this choice will help to unify different cultures.
The exterior of the 20 metre high construction has a cone-shape, with slats arranged from central towards the outside. The messages will scroll on the circular facade. From below the cone an illuminated maze will welcome and entertain the guests. By investigating the Britain progress in AI and space technology the maze will show engaging exhibitions. The interior of the Poem Pavilion will be complete with choral songs from worldwide choirs. The project will be realised with the collaboration of Avantgarde, Atelier One and Atelier Ten.
