Job Details

As an Associate Artistic Director, your role is centered on inspiration: top-down and bottom-up.

After inspiring the overall artistic vision of a game, you define the direction of its characters, props, and environments. And then empower a group of artists to make it happen.

Even as you communicate a clear direction, you remain open to its evolution, fostering an environment of creative freedom that allows each artist to propose ideas that fit the mood of the game and enhance its visual identity.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Art Director to help develop the artistic vision for the game.
  • Think and research to define the artistic direction of your real estate space.
  • Collaborate with artists to translate ideas into inspiring and relevant references and moodboards.
  • Present and explain concepts to artists to connect them to the vision and guide them.
  • Meet regularly with your team to give (and receive) feedback, share suggestions, set benchmarks, find a balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints, etc.
  • Team up with other directors to review and validate game content to achieve quality and ensure consistent, unified direction.
  • Stay on top of global advancements, ensuring art, storytelling, design and technology support each other.

Qualifications

  • A solid understanding of the fundamentals of art (lighting, composition, architecture, anatomy, proportions, etc.), artistic culture (photography, films, books, comics, etc.) and video game culture;
  • Knowledge of game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal) and their limitations, 2D artistic tools (e.g. Photoshop) and 3D software (e.g. 3DS Max, Maya or ZBrush);
  • Art-related experience in the video game industry (or other relevant experience) + leadership experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Open-minded: you are receptive to new ideas and perspectives;
  • Effective transversal communication: you have the know-how to communicate comfortably with all disciplines (programming, design, animation, etc.).
