VENINI introduces Vigna collection in sapphire blue and deep red

Inspired by the changing colours of autumn vineyards, VENINI‘s new Vigna collection introduces a combination of sapphire blue and deep red across some of the Murano glassmaker’s most recognisable designs. Available from the end of October 2026, the collection revisits historical pieces through a chromatic treatment that changes how their surfaces, volumes and transparencies are perceived. The project draws on the contrast between ripening grapes and the clear autumn sky, translating these seasonal references into decorative glass objects that connect VENINI’s historical production with its ongoing research into colour.

The Vigna collection centres on the interaction between two contrasting tones. Red and sapphire blue overlap within the glass, producing variations in density, reflections and transparency that respond to changing light conditions. The combination moves beyond conventional autumn colours, introducing cooler tones into a palette traditionally associated with reds and warmer shades. Across the collection, the relationship between colour and form becomes particularly visible through differences in glass thickness, curvature and surface treatment, giving each historical design a distinct visual character.

Among the pieces presented in the new colourway is Deco, designed by Napoleone Martinuzzi in 1930, alongside Opalino, introduced in 1932. The collection also includes Fazzoletto, created by Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini in 1948, and Monofiore Balloton, dating from 1970. These objects represent different periods of VENINI’s production, from early twentieth-century decorative glass to later interpretations of traditional Murano glassmaking techniques. Their inclusion establishes a connection between the company’s design archive and the contemporary development of its chromatic identity.

Other creations receiving the Vigna treatment include Clessidra by Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini, originally designed in 1957, and Ritagli, attributed to Bianconi in 1989. More recent additions, including Balloton Fiori and Clessidra Sommersa from 2024, appear alongside Lele, a mouth-blown and hand-finished glass candle holder. The selection brings together decorative vases, glass objects and functional accessories, demonstrating how a consistent colour combination can operate across different typologies. Each piece retains its established design identity while introducing new relationships between the two colours.

Founded in 1921 by Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin, VENINI has developed an extensive archive of Italian art glass through collaborations with architects, artists and designers. Its history includes contributions from Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini, among many others. Colour experimentation remains an important part of the Murano manufacturer’s production, with its furnace capable of producing 125 distinct glass colours. The workshop can operate 14 furnaces simultaneously, supporting the technical processes required for its extensive decorative glass collections and continued experimentation with chromatic combinations.

The introduction of Vigna extends this tradition through a selection of established designs spanning nearly a century. By applying the same blue and red palette to objects from different periods, VENINI creates a visual connection between historical and contemporary glassmaking. The collection also reflects the company’s approach to preserving traditional craftsmanship while developing new decorative possibilities through colour. Vigna will be available from the end of October 2026 through VENINI stores and selected retailers, joining the brand’s Art Glass portfolio.
