Willoh makes “CU” a song about the strange temptation to return to versions of yourself that you have already outgrown. Adolescence and adulthood are present, at that point where self-discovery and confidence gives way to doubt and back again, while the narrator remains suspended between moving forward and romanticising a darker place simply because it is familiar.
The production turns that uncertainty into something physical. Elusive guitar picking opens the track before silky transitions and hypnotic beats draw it into a more suspended space. Then the edges sharpen. Dissonant production disrupts the trance and eventually pushes the song into a glitch-heavy breakdown, mirroring the maze-like movement of its lyrics. “CU” does not resolve the contradiction because staying on the fence is part of what the song is about.
Willoh describes the feeling as losing yourself during a transition and rediscovering the person you were, while recognizing that memory can make even difficult periods look beautiful in retrospect. That push and pull gives the song its unsettled quality. Growing up means leaving something behind, but sometimes you still want to see what happens if you turn around.
