Sundozer: DYI (Dance Yourself Insane)

Sundozer’s “DYI (Dance Yourself Insane)” finds a steady groove in the middle of a world that keeps coming apart. Christian Luis French builds the track around a warm, funky bassline, then adds percussion, reversed guitars and hazy synths in loose layers. His voice enters with a distant, melancholy delivery, almost like someone watching events unfold from a safe distance.

The lyrics bring in a new figure: “Here he comes, the new one with nothing to lose.” From there, the music gets stranger. A simple percussion melody keeps returning in altered form, while the arrangement moves through post-punk rhythms and electronic details before breaking into a chaotic, circus-like passage. Then the second half takes an unexpected turn towards a laid-back dance groove. The image of a band playing on as a yacht sinks gives the track its peculiar sense of humor.

French recorded most of the project in his home studio, with drummer Florian Gouëllo joining him for a three-day session in Los Angeles. Danny Reisch engineered and mixed the material, adding his own percussion, while Max Lorenzen handled mastering. The finished track has a polished sound, though its appeal comes from the way French lets the parts drift, collide and start again.
