MUK Recharge Club combines technology and wellness in Barcelona
Barcelona-based spatial design studio S.E.H. has designed MUK Recharge Club, a retail interior in Barcelona that brings together technology, wellness and interactive shopping. Created for a phone accessories brand, the project introduces a different approach to conventional retail, where customers can engage with products while taking time to recharge their devices. The compact interior combines custom-designed furniture, tactile materials and integrated technology to establish a setting that accommodates both shopping and moments of rest. Its layout places equal attention on product presentation and the visitor experience.

A continuous arrangement of curved surfaces gives the MUK Recharge Club interior its architectural identity. Velvet-covered walls and ceilings introduce a soft, enveloping quality, complemented by glossy lacquered wood and brushed stainless steel. The contrasting finishes establish a relationship between domestic comfort and the precision associated with electronic devices. S.E.H. designed the furniture and display elements specifically for the space, maintaining consistency across the different functional areas. Rounded counters, reflective surfaces and carefully positioned lighting contribute to a cohesive environment where architectural details also support the presentation of merchandise.

At the centre of the MUK store, a sculptural stainless steel display presents phone accessories through a series of slender vertical supports. Devices and cases appear suspended at different heights, creating an organised composition that visitors can approach from multiple viewpoints. A magnetic plug-and-play display system allows customers to handle and examine phone cases directly, making product interaction an integral part of the retail experience. Above the central counter, a large mirrored sphere reflects the surroundings through its curved surface, introducing distorted perspectives of the interior, the displayed objects and passing visitors.

Beyond the main retail area, MUK Recharge Club incorporates a dedicated Recharge Lounge, extending the store’s function beyond product selection. Integrated charging points allow customers to replenish their devices while taking a break. The interior also includes a Phone Facial station, an area dedicated to cleaning and refreshing mobile phones. Stainless steel surfaces and specially arranged accessories give this service a presentation reminiscent of a personal care ritual. By applying the language of wellness to everyday technology maintenance, the project introduces an additional dimension to the experience of visiting a phone accessories store.

The material palette plays an important role in connecting these different activities. Soft textile finishes contrast with polished metal, while illuminated display niches and reflective detailing give individual products greater visibility. Accessories are presented on integrated stands and vertical fixtures, keeping the surrounding surfaces visually consistent. The arrangement of counters, display systems and service areas helps distinguish different uses without introducing separate architectural languages. Warm lighting balances the cooler appearance of stainless steel, while curved forms continue across the interior to connect retail displays with areas intended for relaxation.
The relationship between personal technology and everyday routines becomes particularly evident in the store’s service areas. Charging a phone, cleaning its surface or selecting a new case are treated as individual activities, each supported by dedicated furniture and equipment. With these functions incorporated into the retail environment, MUK introduces a slower approach to shopping, giving customers a reason to spend time in the space beyond the purchase itself.
