Alivia Clark: Dancing In Circles

Alivia Clark’s “Dancing In Circles” captures the moment when attraction starts getting in the way of better judgment. She knows the relationship should end, yet keeps finding reasons to stay for another night. The repeated request to dance gives that indecision a physical form, with the club setting offering a temporary escape from the thought of walking away.

They shouldn’t do this again, but perhaps one more time won’t hurt. She brings a more sensual side to the scene, with images of scattered roses, sweat and close contact. Her polished vocals sit over an uptempo dance-pop production by David Mason, Lectriq and Harry Zelnick, whose pulsing rhythm keeps the song moving even as its narrator circles back to the same decision. Each return to the dancefloor delays the moment when the night has to end, and Clark makes the appeal easy to understand. She can see where this is going. For now, the music keeps playing.
