LuxeIsland Farm by Various Associates as a nature focused cultural retreat

Rooted in Wuhan’s long connection to its waterways, LuxeIsland Farm by Various Associates grows from a terrain shaped by winding river paths and soft valleys, presenting a landscape where architecture and nature advance together.

Positioned along the Zhujia River in Jiang’an District, the project forms the central anchor of LUXEOASIS across 230,000 square meters.

Hills rise to the north while a pier defines the southern edge, framing a micro-vacation destination that integrates eco-recreation, aesthetic education, leisure retail, and cultural creativity into a unified vision of art and natural life.

Meteorite-like farm structures set across a soft valley landscape

Commissioned to shape both architecture and interiors, Various Associates approached the site as an opportunity to set a new standard for Wuhan’s cultural tourism.

Their concept emphasizes future-focused expression, playful engagement, and interactive spatial narratives. Meteorite-like structures appear to rest lightly across the valley, while bamboo-woven roofs echo the surrounding pasture and shift with the movement of daylight.

These sculptural volumes form a visual rhythm that moves across the island’s west side, defining a new urban utopia.

The circular plan organizes animal areas, a creative workshop, and dining and retail functions into a cohesive system that supports efficient movement while retaining an immersive quality. Boulder-like buildings rise from native vegetation and atmospheric misting systems, softening their presence.

Semi-submerged animal enclosures with planted roofs reduce visual mass, allowing the farm to settle into the environment with clarity and purpose. Natural materials—bamboo, timber, and stone—express the project’s ecological tone. Bamboo weaving, referenced as a cultural symbol, becomes a contemporary material language across structures.

The program combines animal interaction, parent-child learning, market events, and community gatherings, enabling the farm to operate as a flexible, multifunctional environment.

Earth-sheltered animal enclosures interact closely with the hillside, creating calm transitions between constructed elements and the landscape.

Resting pavilions, food stalls, and coffee stands form compact clusters that support ecological education and gentle animal encounters.

Open paddocks, sand pits, timber shading, and soft terrain provide comfortable habitats for alpacas, deer, and other species while encouraging meaningful moments between visitors and animals.

The creative workshop stands as a lightweight bamboo-woven dome supported by stone-like columns. Its triangular apertures cast shifting shadows across a space that functions as a social hub, an artisanal café, and an adaptable venue for craftwork and outdoor gatherings.

Large operable openings support fluid interaction between the courtyard and the wider landscape. Elsewhere, a silver disc establishes a lively zone for ice cream and donuts, its textured exterior recalling mountain rock. Nearby, a UFO-shaped dessert canopy introduces a futuristic visual anchor.

Complementary structures—including the feed barn and washroom—use bamboo and metal roofs to create sculptural silhouettes that emphasize utility while maintaining atmosphere.

As evening arrives, the Forest Star Stage transforms into a versatile gathering ground defined by sawdust floors, hay seating, and ambient lighting woven through the trees.

Together, these spaces construct an expressive environment where material sensitivity, cultural storytelling, and experiential design guide a new vision of public life.

LuxeIsland Farm by Various Associates becomes a natural valley reinterpreted through architecture, inviting every visitor into a narrative shaped by place and imagination.
