Stefano Boeri Architetti regenerates Depositi Delle Vittorie in Rome
Depositi Delle Vittorie Rome regeneration project by Stefano Boeri Architetti gives a former public transportation depot a new civic role within the city. Presented as “A Green Courtyard in the heart of Rome,” the intervention turns an infrastructural site into a place of openness and greenery, shifting its identity from service architecture to public space.
The project begins from the existing character of Depositi Delle Vittorie, a site once connected to public transportation and the daily movement of the city. Stefano Boeri Architetti approaches the former depot through regeneration, preserving its urban importance while giving it a different function. Much like Piuarch’s congress complex and theater in Riva del Garda, the intervention uses its historical context as the starting point for a renewed relationship between architecture, landscape, and community life.
The courtyard gives the project its main architectural direction. More than an empty space, it becomes the element that organises the new identity of the former depot. In the heart of Rome, the green courtyard introduces a calmer urban condition, offering a place where the site can open itself to the city. Its role is spatial as much as environmental, creating a centre around which the regeneration of Depositi Delle Vittorie can develop.
Greenery becomes the main material of transformation. Within a place previously defined by function and transit, vegetation changes the atmosphere of the site and gives it a more public presence. The project’s strength lies in this passage from movement to permanence.
