URBANJOBS designs ORIGAMI bakery interior in Tersane Istanbul
ORIGAMI by URBANJOBS is an interior architecture project that redefines the contemporary bakery typology through a precise spatial system where production, display, and customer experience align within a compact retail environment. Located within the evolving cultural district of Tersane Istanbul, ORIGAMI operates as a sensory bakery experience shaped by architectural clarity, where the logic of laminated pastry becomes a guiding principle for form, structure, and perception.
URBANJOBS organizes ORIGAMI as a linear sequence structured along a strong longitudinal axis, establishing a clear relationship between circulation, product visibility, and operational flow. Custom-designed shelving forms a continuous architectural wall that integrates storage, display, and lighting into a unified system. These vertical frames act as rhythmic structural bays, allowing flexibility while maintaining spatial order. Illuminated horizontal planes emphasize stratification, referencing the layered composition of croissants through a controlled repetition that reinforces both visual depth and functional clarity within the retail interior.

High-gloss ceramic tiles in deep tones wrap the perimeter, creating a reflective envelope that amplifies light and enhances spatial perception. This darker shell contrasts with mineral-textured surfaces and pale stone elements that ground the interior composition. At the center, a monolithic island functions simultaneously as display counter, service point, and spatial anchor. Its sharp geometry and elevated presence establish a focal point that organizes both customer interaction and staff workflow within the bakery environment.
A perforated ceiling system introduces a secondary layer of order, using a consistent circular grid to conceal technical infrastructure while reinforcing the project’s modular discipline. Integrated lighting remains restrained, allowing the illuminated shelving and vertical light panels to define the atmosphere. This approach supports a retail design strategy where products become the primary visual elements, framed by architecture rather than overshadowed by it. The result is an installation-like interior where light, repetition, and alignment operate as key design tools.
The seating area extends the architectural language without creating separation. Wooden chairs and mineral-finished tables maintain continuity, while the layout preserves an unobstructed circulation path along the central axis. Attention to detail is evident in the resolution of junctions between glass, metal, and timber, as well as in the use of frameless vitrines that reduce visual interference. ORIGAMI by URBANJOBS positions itself as a contemporary bakery interior that balances precision and atmosphere, delivering a spatial experience grounded in proportion, material control, and operational logic.
