Pedestal introduces Cloudy Silver across its Moon TV stand collection

Pedestal has introduced Cloudy Silver, a new metallic finish for its Moon TV stand collection, developed in Aarhus, Denmark. Available across Moon, Moon Tall and Moon Light, the finish offers a softer interpretation of metal through an engineered ceramic coating applied to the collection’s existing steel frames. Joining the original Chrome version, Cloudy Silver introduces a more understated surface with a fine texture and subtle reflections, allowing the mobile TV stands to integrate into a wider range of contemporary interiors.

The distinction between the two finishes lies in how their surfaces interact with their surroundings. While Chrome features a mirror-polished surface that reflects objects and distributes light throughout a room, Cloudy Silver produces a diffused metallic sheen. Its muted appearance reduces the visual prominence of the supporting structure, giving greater emphasis to the television screen and its rectangular proportions. The result maintains the Moon collection’s recognisable silhouette while introducing a different relationship between the object, its environment and the materials around it.

Developed using a two-stage coating process, Cloudy Silver combines the structural properties of steel with the tactile qualities of an engineered ceramic surface. The coating is cured at very high temperatures, producing a finely textured finish that feels smooth to the touch while remaining durable and maintenance-free. These characteristics are particularly relevant to the Moon TV stands, which are designed to move between different areas of the home. The surface is intended to withstand regular handling and repositioning without requiring additional maintenance.

The colour draws inspiration from the subdued grey tones found in the Copenhagen interiors painted by Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi around 1900. Known for his restrained domestic compositions, Hammershøi frequently depicted rooms characterised by quiet tonal variations and carefully arranged furnishings. Pedestal translates this visual reference into a contemporary product finish, using a muted silver-grey surface to establish a more discreet presence within interior spaces. The connection introduces a historical perspective to the collection without altering its functional design.

The Moon collection extends its functional approach through three configurations: Moon, Moon Tall and Moon Light. Each retains the distinctive steel frame and integrated wheels, allowing the television to move easily between rooms. A coordinating tray shelf provides additional space for accessories, while the Cloudy Silver finish creates a consistent visual identity across the different models. The restrained surface complements the collection’s practical design, allowing the stands to function as independent pieces of furniture within changing domestic environments.

Founded in Aarhus, Pedestal began developing its approach to mobile television furniture in August 2020, responding to the need for a screen that could move freely between rooms without compromising the surrounding interior. The first Moon TV stand launched in August 2021, establishing a design approach that treats television furniture as an independent object within domestic spaces. With Cloudy Silver, Pedestal continues this development through a targeted refinement of colour and surface. The introduction demonstrates how adjustments to texture and reflectivity can influence the visual character of an established product while preserving its original structure and mobility.
